Trying to go where American ghosts may still be lurking. It all started at the ALAMO!

Our first show of the tour was in San Antonio, and while the other boys slept, when my eyes opened, I just knew that if Pee Wee did it, then so was I. I was surprised to find that the Alamo was located right in the center of the city, flanked by a Haagen-Dazs and a sandwich shop. It was 8:30 a.m. and I parked out van right in front where the siege must have happened, and the guns must have all fired. I got out, walked up to the entrance... it was closed. Just me, the Alamo security chick, and some Japanese tourists shooting photos of me staring at the locked gate. So, I walked the entire wall in a circle, and drove off to pick up the guys.

Dallas was a little spookier. After sound check we scooted right down the exact street of the club, Elm street, to find the infamous Daly square. "Back and to the left...back and to the left" Cisco, our drummer, kept repeating. There we were standing at the JFK assassination spot. This time I insisted that if we really wanted to creep it up, we should walk over to the alleged spots of the gunmen. So, standing in the grassy knoll was a bit eerie.

New Orleans' French Quarter proved to be an adventure. Playing the House of Blues was quite an honor, and after the show we made good use of the local offerings. Doug and Francisco held open beers in the busy street just because they were allowed, Nic and Alek noticed all the drunk LSU frat boys stumbling up Bourbon Street, but I could help but to point out ALL the fascinating windows that rest on the second and third floors above what are now Gaps, and tourist traps below. Only one thing went through my mind... damn they had a lot of French hookers up in here!

In Florida, the best I could do was ask where I could find ex-Dolphin Bob Griesie or even that Black quarterback from Tampa Bay that ruled in the 80s, Doug something... No one knew, and kept talking about some new thing called the HEAT. I was like, who? I stopped watching sports for drugs in the like 1991. I did, however, get lost on a total crack street in Tampa, just outside Ybor City, and there were real life zombies there for sure! One guy was standing in the middle of street selling two broken vacuum cleaners to no one, at 2 a.m.

We descended on Philadelphia last Sunday. First order of business was to run up the ROCKY steps. When we got to the top, we realized we were facing the art museum and found out it was free that day. Inside we took a guided tour and found ourselves staring at battle armor from the Medieval period. Masks and grills and chest plates and knives and axes and spears oh my! All I could think about was all the ways one could try to break through to the flesh. Crushing and stabbing through until your enemy lay dead inside his fancy, silver costume! Then, we went searching for the Liberty bell and then thought maybe Ben Franklin had a late night fling up against it. He did have like 17 kids and a nasty STD when he finally kicked off. No bell, just cheese steaks instead. Over all, Philly was full of ghosts and lots of fun to drive around. We got to see the store front that was featured in the hit movie, Mannequin, and best of all, annoy locals asking, "Do you know where we can find the Fresh Prince of Bel Air?"

Stay tuned for BOSTON, NYC, DETROIT, HENRY HUDSON, and more...

Xander Smith - RUN RUN RUN
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-31882878702160965472007-10-08T15:44:00.001-07:002007-10-08T15:44:13.126-07:00philly and bostonhey friends.. so we are now in boston! the weather's great right now. about 60 degrees, and totally brisk. feels awesome after all the heat and humidity! jeez, we figured going out in the fall would keep us away from heat, but it hasn't.. until now!

philly was awesome! i (cisco) had never been there before. what a beautiful city.. great architecture, rich history. we went to the philadelphia museum of art... it was pretty amazing. so inspiring and meaningful. we went on the best day too.. sunday, when you 'pay what you wish' to get in. they had such amazing installations too.. luckily we had a great tour guide that told us all we needed to know in just an hour! i'll get some pictures posted as soon as we upload them. did i mention we ran up the 'rocky' stairs in front of the musuem? that was awesome! coincidentally, they are showing a 'rocky marathon' today on spike tv.. :)

the show was awesome too! we had a great time with gliss & the ropes. great venue, too... the room & stage were great, and the sound guy was doing an excellent job. twas a good gig.

we drove straight out of philly after the show, though.. we decided we rather chill in boston for a day at our friend mary's house. great friends, great house! feels good to just relax for a day.

thanks to all the friends that have come out to the shows recently! this tour has been amazing so far.. see you all soon!
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-82622866953465801022007-10-08T15:42:00.000-07:002007-10-08T15:43:38.229-07:00Taking Care of my New Tattoo on Tour

Yea pretty much nothing like being on tour across the entire country with my band and brother. I finished my sleeve on my left arm the day before I left for tour. What a mission trying to keep a clean wound while playing shows, sleeping in a van and being in a hot muggy south. To do the job, I brought a small travel size spray bottle with some antibacterial dial soap and water. That and a roll of paper towels, saran wrap and Eucerin Aquafore healing lotion. No lotion the first 2 days, just keeping it clean and moist and wrapped in plastic wrap when sleeping. Then applying a little aquafore to keep it moist a couple of times a day. Other than that, listening to the entire Journey discography from last to first helps quite a bit. But hey, thats just me...
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com26tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-3221313342160443652007-10-08T15:32:00.000-07:002007-10-08T15:42:08.446-07:00pics from sparta showhere are a couple of pics from the sparta show in new orleans... the top pic is from the outside of HOB, the bottom pic is a shot of jim (lead singer of sparta) & xander enjoying a couple of ice cold (well, at least chilled) amstel lights...

Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-65968815639817474142007-09-26T13:12:00.000-07:002007-09-26T13:21:13.695-07:00great show in Dallaswhat a long day... driving for 5 hrs and playing at midnight... just now getting ready to go to sleep. we had a great show at DADA... cool vibe, cool people. you know they stop selling beer at liquor stores at midnight?? what's up with that? oh, and did you know there are actually signs in downtown dallas that state,
"keep dallas clean... RUN RUN RUNWHAT DOES SMASHING PUMPKINS, THE DARKNESS and RUN RUN RUN all have in common, other than singers who love classic rock, fancy light shows, and very loud guitars?
Well, the answer is, we have all recently held court with legendary rock producer, Roy Thomas Baker. RUN RUN RUN just got back from LAKE HAVASU, AZ on FRIDAY SEPT 7 and among the amazing locals who came out to support Rx3, Roy brought an entourage to rock out with us at a local bar called MADDOG'S.

RTB first gained fame and fortune by finding Freddie Mercury (singer of QUEEN for all of you too young to know the greatest frontman ever) in a shoe shop, and upon hearing his band in a garage, signed Queen to a deal to record such classics as BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (the wayne's world song, again for the kids). He also brought us THE CARS, JOURNEY, and many others. I used to play in a band called OTHERSTARPEOPLE, and A&M records paired us up with RTB, and we went out to Lake Havasu to record in his amazing desert studio. Our efforts were shelved as A&M records got sold. But RTB resurfaced by working with UK's THE DARKNESS last year and now SMASHING PUMPKINS this year.

Roy said he really liked our newest song, FONTANA, and we caught him tapping his toe to WIRE and SKYSCRAPER. It was a lot of fun, to have Rx3 play for a long time friend and rock and roll icon. Billy Corgan must have had a blast asking about all those Queen and CARS stories! I know I did.

X.Smith
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-35899907340245618042007-08-31T14:45:00.000-07:002007-08-31T14:47:09.849-07:00TOMORROW NITE!

Thanks to Indie 103.1 for a great show last nite!
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-47022675243644373142007-08-30T16:40:00.000-07:002007-08-30T16:46:01.281-07:00Hollywood & Highland TONIGHT!Hi!
Just a friendly reminder about the show tonite!

We'd like to thank Indie 103.1 for being so kind to us and inviting us to play the show and we'd like to thank Discrevolt for hooking us up so we could provide you with a chance to get your hands on a digital copy of the Good Company ep!

The first 100 people to get to the show tonite at Hollywood & Highland will receive a card redeemable online for a free copy of the ep which you can load straight into iTunes!

Thanks so much, as always, for your support!

Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-40981004743725305432007-08-28T12:43:00.000-07:002007-08-28T13:04:53.724-07:00Sunset Junction in LA? - Xander can't come out & playHI. Its Xander Smith from RUN RUN RUN. And this is what happens when you try to go to Sunset Junction if you are me this year.

I was excited to see the lineup of bands playing the 2007 installment of SUNSET JUNCTION street fair in Silverlake, CA. I used to work at this show, as a runner, just to be involved. One year, I was actually the guy who got to close down Sunset Blvd at midnight the day before, so they could construct the fair. Imagine that, getting to walk out onto the biggest street in your hometown, and just stand in the middle of it, and say, "STOP! We're closing this down!" In a PJ HARVEY t-shirt no less.

This time around, my band, RUN RUN RUN, wasn't on tour, I wasn't on holiday with the folks, and I didn't have to work, so I thought I could finally go and just relax and enjoy myself. I got so worked up about going that I couldn't sleep the night before. Really! I'm that much of a dork. I started to think about ex-girlfriends that I might run into, and that got me a little anxious, but then I paid no attention. The temperature was a record breaking, and I heard reports of people passing out on the hot pavement, but that was no obstacle. My other friend called and said, there's absolutely no parking, and we can't seem to buy any water anywhere. All reasons, to perhaps skip the event, as I considered driving over there (on about 3 hours of sleep). But, NO, Xander Smith was going despite all the warnings of discomfort.

I got in my little truck and started heading to Silverlake. I had the AC blasting and U2's "With Or Without YOu" came on the radio. I was enjoying my cool capsule of 80s rock nostaglia, and then as I made my way to exit for the street fair, some force greater than me, took my hands and made me quickly turn left, unexpectedly. This was problematic because it was all the way from the far right hand lane, in front of 2 other lanes of traffic that included a city bus, that came 15 feet from creaming me, and not to mention, that it was onto a one way street going in the opposite direction of my vehicle! WOW! duh!!
Seconds later, I crashed into the far curb of the intersection, destroying the right side of my truck. The tires were mangled and blown, the alignment all screwed up, and I sat that, the street now hauntingly empty, thinking, "That happened!" I wonder what horrible fate awaited me if i HAD made it to the show??

Well, i laughed. I was in a bit of shock, but called a tow company. They came around about 45 minutes later. The tow truck driver, Alejandro, said, "Woah, man. you really fucked this shit up! Did a cat run out in the street or something?" I said, "No, God wanted to keep me from going somewhere, but he thought a bolder would be too obvious, so he made me drive into a curb so my car coulds move forward." I think I creeped him out with the God stuff, even thought he, of course, had a huge, plastic Jesus on his dashborad. He drove me and my sad little car back home to Culver City, CA. So... uh.... no Sunset Juction for Xander this year! waaah waaaah

Xander Smith - Culver City, CA
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-38940835709363323802007-08-23T14:58:00.001-07:002008-12-08T22:25:41.862-08:00Next week: Indie 103.1 Thursday Night Thing<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-kU69Wz4K1XFPbul9w7NAhL_CFMW7Whl1k8QQAOEM-5F5EFtnC4JTyDwc5NMZfVgRxzSrjIUHhxStcLIFD11QHYrg4C1GCogABPXsDJT1nHGgiZrpYE2TcQohkwydA3cGeVlSi_bsbFI/s400/H&Hupdateflyer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5102019190124005490" />
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1816832310887693193.post-36876581440809978972007-08-15T01:29:00.000-07:002007-08-15T02:10:01.998-07:00How the lyrics to "Good Company" came to be...I suppose the lyrics to our new ep title track, "Good Company" is a ode to unrequited love-an unoriginal, yet persistent theme in many of our lives. My hopeless romantic quest for a significant other, has always fallen on deaf ears and cold hearts, as I may have the most broken radar around when it comes to picking girls. It's really all BROOKE SHIELDS' fault. Damn her for being 2 dimensional. I really thought i had a chance when i was 7. I loooooved her. Eventually, when i realized she would never come down off the movie screen and be with me in Phoenix, AZ where I lived at age 7, i decided to try approaching real life girls that i had actually met in person. From about 10 til now, they all stayed pretty on the outside, but rotten on the inside. How could they be so cruel to me? Oh, you might ask, did I have anything to do with these soured romances? Well, most certainly i did. So, I had to get real tough about my next decision or my days as a romantic were finished. I realized that I needed a gal who was not only lovely and easy on the eyes, but had fortitude, uprightness, could be flexible but unbreakable, solid to the core- a mate who never nagged or begged or wallowed- a real charmer! And then, it happened. One day I was walking down a business street in fabulous Culver City, CA. I looked in the window of dress shop and she stared back at me. "Plastic Fantastic, she's standing six foot tall. So classic, elastic" and soon we were to be "bouncing off the walls." Now this may seem odd to you, inhuman, even deranged. However, it's been no less than enchanting. I wont get into any specifics, because my personal life IS none of your business. But, before you pass judgment on our new love, you might want to spend an evening in my living room, and let yourself look upon me and mine, relaxing on our couch, watching the Tube, and laughing and loving, together..."sitting pretty... Look what good company has done for me!"

Xander

RUN RUN RUN - "GOOD COMPANY", lyrics by Xander Smith
(c) 2007 RUN RUN RUN
Visit RUN RUN RUN MUSIC
RUN RUN RUNhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02379380060904525223noreply@blogger.com1
